Check this sketch that I've done. All her body is done with cylinders. Also, I changed my mind and drew the legs on different position than the original sketch. The fingers on the hands are done with small cylinders.

I did this sketch using a picture as reference. Practice first and do many sketches, and then, chose the one you think is the best. Copy, don't feel that you are cheating. Put your own creation on the final artwork. Even the masters copy or have pictures as references when they do their masterpieces.

I did this sketch having a picture as reference. I can't uploading the picture because of copyright issues. However, I took the part of the picture that I like the most. The hands and the position of the body are very interesting and make the girl looks sensual and smoothy. Then I added my own elements and ornaments. Also, the light and dark values were done having the picture as a guide.

The secret to draw the human figure is to practice and practice. Check first your anatomy book. Start doing sketches of the bones, then the muscles. Start doing sketches, blocks, cylenders, lines. Also look for references to complete your illustration. I left some parts of the draw so you can see the contruction lines I used to build the body.

When you draw with a reference, you don't have to compete with the camera. I mean you don't have to copy exactly the model in the picture. You take some parts of the picture and then you add your own. Here I like the eyes and the lips.

Another sketch about anatomy that I just did in the office this morning. The characters are in motion so the arms, legs, and heads are in different positions. Check the fingers and legs. None of them are alike. Check the small sketch. I started on building my draw doing a rough, doing action lines and proportions. Then I added details.

Drawing the head

I followed the same steps I explained before. The head is a ball, the eyes are balls, the lips are curves, the nose is a ball. Start doing some sketches like the small one I did to do these heads. Look for references if you like.

Check the small sketch. It's a simple one. I started doing blocks or cylinders to define the different parts of the body. Men at the background are done with blocks and everthing is in motion. I left some part of the draw without values so you can see just the lines how i built it.

Drawing the anatomy.

When drawing anatomy look for references. Anatomy books and pictures are needed to to do a good draw. You can't guess all the anatomy in a body, niether the shadows. Look for other illustrator's works to see how they resolved their illustrations. You'll learn from everbody's works. At the right on this site you can download the Andrew Loomis's books. He is a famous american Illustrator. I learned from his amazing books.
